January, 2012

Happy New Year to Everyone!  2012 is shaping up to be a very exciting year for organ enthusiasts here in the Greater Huntsville area.

First of all — please plan to join us for our annual January Epiphany Celebration on Friday, January 6th, once again held at the home of chapter member Anne Vasile.  This year, the guild provide a meat main course, and members are invited to bring salads, side dishes and desserts, and most importantly — GUESTS.  This is a great time to invite folks who might be interested in joining our chapter and let them have an opportunity to spend time socially with our members.  Our party will begin at 6:00 pm at the Vasile home, 911 Fagan Springs Drive, Huntsville, AL 35801.

We certainly have no shortage of great organ music happening in the new year.  Covenant Presbyterian Church, 301 Drake Avenue, SE in Huntsville, presents Gail Archer in recital on January 22nd at 3:00 pm.  Her program is scheduled to include works by Buxtehude, Bach, Schumann, Fanny Mendelssohn and American composer Joan Tower.  Our chapter will host a reception for Ms. Archer after the recital.

On Friday, March 2 at 7:30 pm, the Huntsville Chamber Music Guild will present Nathan Laube in concert as part of the HCMG’s 59th season.  Nathan is considered to be one of america’s rising stars.  To whet your appetite, you can enjoy a little sampling of what is in store here.  Ticket information about this concert available at hcmg.us.

Friday April 27th, Church of the Nativity will present David Enlow in recital at 7:30 pm.  David, both a graduate from and faculty member of the Juilliard School in New York City, is an impeccable organist.  He will follow-up his Friday evening performance with a Saturday morning class on service playing.  Details about the class will be sent out closer to the date.

We have other exciting events coming in the spring so check back here often for information.  In fact, you might want to consider bookmarking our  Upcoming Events page to see what is happening on the Huntsville organ scene year round.

Warmest regards to all of you,

Mark Moorehead
