February and March, 2012

Greetings Friends. Although the cold winds of winter blow about us just now, it won’t be very long at all until we find ourselves in the midst of summertime — and what happens in the summertime [of even-numbered years] ? Why, that’s right — the AGO National Convention. For 2012, the AGO National Convention will take place July 1-6 in Nashville, Tennessee. If you haven’t done so already, you can read about the convention and register at www.ago2012.org.
February and March will be busy times for organists in the Greater Huntsville Area, but during these busy times I do hope that every member of our guild as well as every enthusiast will be able to enjoy some very special events.
The University of the South in Sewanee Tennessee will present their Easter Term Organ Recital Series on February 23rd, March 8th, and April 12th at the All Saints Chapel on campus. Dallas Organist Mary Preston and Fisk University Organist Anthony Williams along with Sewanee’s own Robert Delcamp & Jason Farris will perform on these programs. You can get more information about them on our Upcoming Events page.
On Friday, March 2 at 7:30 pm, the Huntsville Chamber Music Guild will present Nathan Laube in concert as part of the HCMG’s 59th season. The concert will be at Trinity United Methodist Church. Nathan is considered to be one of america’s rising stars, and he has planned a wonderful program including music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Maurice Duruflé, Charles-Marie Widor and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. You can enjoy a little sampling of what is in store here. On Thursday, March 1st at 4:30 pm, Nathan will present an educational encounter at Trinity. Everyone is invited, and students who attend will be given complimentary tickets to the Friday evening performance. More information about these two events and much more is available at hcmg.us.
In February and March, our chapter will present our 27th annual Noontime Recital Series. The first concert on the series will be February 23rd at First Christian Church, 3209 Whitesburg Drive in Huntsville. The noontime concerts run for six consecutive Thursdays, from 12:10 pm to 12:50 pm, making them a perfect “lunch portion” of music for your day. There are still openings to play on some of the programs. Chapter Sub-Dean Becky Waters is coordinator of this year’s series. You can e-mail her for more information, or to sign up to participate in one of the programs. All are open to the public, so please invite your friends, family and others. Please download the AGONoontime2012 flyer to share with folks and to post wherever you think people might see it. The complete series is:
